Government and Breast Cancer Now launch three-year awareness partnership

Healthcare professional speaks with a woman receiving breast cancer support

The Department of Health and Social Care and Breast Cancer Now have announced a three-year partnership to help women spot possible symptoms earlier and find reliable advice. It is the first partnership under the renewed Women’s Health Strategy and will place particular emphasis on reaching underserved communities.

New research cited by the government found that 29% of women in England who regularly check their breasts are not confident they would notice a change. The programme will promote regular checking, clearer information on when to contact a GP and better guidance after primary treatment, including signs that cancer may have returned or spread. Healthcare teams will also receive extra training and a practical toolkit. Unusual changes should be assessed by a medical professional rather than self-diagnosed.
