Great British Railways headquarters to bring up to 450 jobs to Derby
Derby has been selected as the headquarters location for Great British Railways, the future publicly owned body intended to bring railway operations together. The Department for Transport says the site will accommodate up to 450 staff and could add an estimated ยฃ151 million to the regional economy.
Construction at the Becketwell city-centre site is expected to begin in early 2027, with completion planned for spring 2029. The government also plans up to 600 foundation apprenticeship places for 16- to 21-year-olds over the next four years, with the first apprentices based in Derby.
The headquarters and apprenticeships are part of the wider rail reform programme. The jobs, regional economic impact and training places are government estimates and plans; they will depend on the project being delivered to schedule.
