UK urges European partners to back an energy ceasefire for Ukraine
The Foreign Secretary has called on European partners to support an energy ceasefire that would halt attacks on Ukraine’s power infrastructure. He made the appeal at the Warsaw Security Forum as Ukraine prepares for another winter under sustained pressure on its energy system.
The government said Russia carried out 200 attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in the past week, alongside wider drone and bomb strikes. The UK is also seeking closer European coordination against cyber-attacks, sabotage and other hybrid threats that can affect critical infrastructure beyond Ukraine.
The proposal remains a diplomatic initiative rather than an agreed ceasefire. The Foreign Secretary said the UK would continue supporting Ukraine and strengthening cooperation with Poland, Germany, Norway and other partners. Any practical arrangement would require agreement on timing, monitoring and reciprocal compliance.
